[ The text on his phone -- from Kylo Ren -- is enough to make his palms sweat, his fingers tremble. He had actually been in lecture. He's hoping to move to a sabbatical as soon as possible, but he needs the credibility first. He needs to be seen.
But Kylo had already seen him. Who he really was. ]
[ Oh, he knows exactly how David is shaking, now. He's been inside him. When his comm device chirps to notify him that his message has been seen, a genuine thrill runs through him at the thought. He amuses himself while he's waiting for the reply imagining just how hard his heart must be thumping in his chest as he types.
And when the reply comes... yes. That mix of the fearful, clawing need to know what to expect and the half-acknowledgement that if Kylo Ren said it was urgent, David would have to comply...
It can be... obscenely satisfying, being someone's living nightmare. ]
No. I have no urgent need of you. It can wait until you have finished.
He knows it, but he can't fight it. If he does, then everything he's worked so hard for, everything he's sacrificed for -- killing his son for -- it wouldn't be any good reason, if Kylo decided to just give it up to the public. This man had power over him, and he knew it.
David hated it. He hated him. He wished he still had the knife, to drag on his skin -- but he was certain he'd enjoy it a lot more than Jon's pulse fading in his hands. ]
Hello Professor, I apologize for not contacting you sooner as I said I would, but I've still been learning my way about the communicator, and I only just found how to add punctuation... Thank you again for your advice previously. So far I've found many other kind people here willing to help me learn about this world and how it works, even so far as to guide me through the many different items in the place I now live. I noticed by your away message that you called yourself a doctor? I recall you introducing yourself instead as a teacher of sorts, so I'm afraid I'm a little confused. Did I misremember? In any case, I hope the day finds you well. Should you learn something or hear of somewhere interesting, I'll be happy to hear of it. Until then, Lucina
text; i almost replied to this with dave's other journal...
I'm glad to hear from you! Perhaps I should explain. I am a Professor, but a Professor generally holds a Doctorate of Philosophy, or a PhD. It simply means that I have the titling appropriate to teach.
I'm glad to hear you're learning a great deal. Perhaps you could share something interesting that you've learned thus far?
Greetings again, Doctor! Thank you for clarifying for me...I'll be sure to use Doctor instead, since it's proper here. I think one thing I've found very interesting here is how much music there is. The devices used to play it are actually playing music that was already made, sometimes AGES ago. It's incredible. One need not seek out a performer to enjoy a song of good quality, they only have to own one of those devices! But the performers here are quite amazing as well. I befriended two, both imports such as us, who have taken to the stages here to sing. It was truly a sight to behold, and I've been lucky enough to be invited to see them when they perform again. I'm greatly looking forward to it, especially after the terrible disaster that's befallen this city. I can only hope to find more means of good morale, if not for myself, but for the downtrodden here. Circumstances were very personal in ways for many of my friends, and while I can't claim much for myself, I still struggle with it, too. The music helps. Thank you for listening, Doctor. Until later, Lucina
LOOK he has a lot of opinions to give and many faces to do it wtih
Oh! You've seen concerts done by imports? How wonderful! Where I come from, I study gods, and this time, our recurrence is filled with musicians. I find it fascinating that you have already made many friends with the performers here is astounding! What are their names? I've met the ones from my world thus far, and I'm interested to know if there are others.
For good morale, have you tried movies, yet? They're delightful.
Hello Doctor, I hope you've been well. Forgive me for not reaching back out sooner; it's been a busy few weeks! It doesn't even seem as much time has passed at all, but all the same... Now, regarding those old stories and fairy tales I mentioned before, I can't say if I know for CERTAIN how they all go, but I'm sure I can attest to a couple. Or at least bits of them. For example, where I'm from, great mountains or volcanoes are very sacred, and many are believed to be endowed with the powers of Naga, the divine dragon. There is a race known as Manakete who possess the ability to channel power through magic stones and transform themselves into dragons, and they are often found near or around these places. Be it to feel close to Naga or to find some peace of mind, I couldn't say. I bring this up because currently, I'm residing on an island with a volcano of its own! Though I don't believe any dragons or the sort will be about in this world. It did make me wonder if people here would have once revered places like it in a similar way, though. What do you think?
Naga are known as dragon-people where you are from? Fascinating!
In my world, they are a snake people in Hindu and Buddhist mythologies. They are also known as Devanāgarī.
There are, of course, many sacred spaces that one can visit that mean a great deal to particular religions, or people. Mythology is difficult, because it happened so long ago, but there are still some sacred, or legendary spaces. Perhaps if I knew what area you were in, I could help you find something close by, to help you learn more about their people?
A quick correction: Naga is the name of the divine dragon, and she is one of a kind. I've met her before. Manakete are the people who can transform into dragons, and there used to be many of them about, long ago. Now there is only one I know of. (So I suppose that makes her one of a kind, too, but...) And while I don't know the EXACT name of this island, perhaps if I provided some photographs that could be telling? I'm unclear as to what here has been here for long and what's been built up for the sake of the TV show.
[Utena slouches in her chair, leafing through a book she has no intent on checking out. The library isn't exciting, but it is air conditioned, and when you're broke you don't get to be choosy about your entertainment options.
It doesn't take long before she gets bored with it, though, and she stretches her arms and wanders back to the stacks to put it back. She's not the only one there, though. There's an older man, someone who looks familiar...]
[ David really hadn't intended to spend as much of his day at the library. Honestly, he had so many other things to do, devices to build, and... His fingers tapped against a book as he walked -- but when someone stopped him, it took every effort to school his face to something blank, instead of the much more honest expression he wore when his face was covered by his helmet.
He looked her up and down, head tipped. ]
No, I'm neither a god "guy", nor Doctor Baker. [ He said, before he laughed to himself. ]
I am, however the authority on the Pantheon, yes. Doctor Blake. Did you need something?
[Womp wommmp. Utena laughs a little under her breath, and smiles sheepishly as her shoulders slump down. At least he's taking the name well?]
Sorry about that... And not really, no. I've just seen you around the network, so I just thought I'd come over and say hi. I mean, imPorts have got to stick together, right? Especially with how crazy this place can get.
[ She hasn't heard from him in a bit, long enough that perhaps she should be more polite- but there's no time. She's a fool for putting this off for this long. ]
Listen- there's something I need to talk to you about. ASAP. Please get back to me.
[ What's eerie is: David doesn't pick up. David has never once not picked up the phone -- not for Cassandra -- and it immediately clicked to voicemail, like the call was outright rejected -- or even worse, just off entirely. The simple 'Hello, you've reached Professor Blake --' is all that Cassandra gets.
David doesn't call back.
It's twenty, thirty, forty minutes. An Hour. Two Hours. Six Hours. David Blake doesn't call her back. ]
She already felt like an idiot after the events of this week, but this is one of the worst moments of it all- she could have called days ago, hell, she could have actually talked to Blake about what she suspected months ago. What's safety when you can't prepared yourself for the worst? As if Woden would leave him alone forever.
That said, maybe- maybe he's just distracted. She doubts it, but maybe. So she rushes down to the University and to his office, rapping on the door and, then, quickly realizing he's not going to respond. So she divines her way in, knowing he won't just be sitting there peacefully but hoping for some sign of where the hell he is.
She hasn't spent much time here. What does he even keep in this office...? ]
[That's all he says, but it's probably obvious enough what he's talking about. He's genuinely surprised by the revelations, but also curious despite himself. He'd liked David, and for now, at least, he still does - but he's definitely viewing the man in a different sort of light.]
